International Training Programme – Disaster Risk Management
Managing and reducing disaster risk is central for saving lives, assets, livelihoods and ensuring sustainable development. This six-year training programme was implemented between 2018 and 2024, and has since supported 174 disaster risk management professionals and their organizations in various change processes.
The aim of the International Training Programme in Disaster Risk Management, ITP DRM for short, was to strengthen the capacity of individuals in key positions and their organisations to manage disaster risks more efficiently, through supporting participants in designing and implementing change processes. By inviting organisations from different sectors to apply to the programme, the participants were given the opportunity to expand their networks with other relevant actors and stakeholders in disaster risk management. The change processes, or change initiatives, that participants worked on within the framework of the programme are outlined in the catalogues below.

Gender equality, Human Rights (HR), environment and climate change were integrated as cross-cutting issues (CCIs) into all the phases and learning activities of the ITP DRM. The overall aim of this approach was to ensure the programme strengthen DRM efforts in the participants’ countries in a way that enhances the sustainability and resilience of the society as a whole, making sure no one is left behind. During the course of the programme, different learning methods were used to strengthen the knowledge, skills and motivation of the participants to promote the integration of the CCIs into their work. Further down, a Training package and a Workbook can be found, which collect the different learning methods and materials used related to the CCI in the programme.
