MSB supports UNHCR in Chad
A renewed wave of violence in Darfur in spring 2025 has triggered a sharp rise in refugee arrivals in Chad’s Wadi Fira and Ennedi-Est provinces.
In response, UNHCR has requested support from MSB to establish office and accommodation camps near the Sudanese border. These establishments will facilitate for humanitarian teams to meet the urgent needs of newly arrived refugees. In collaboration with the European Union, MSB is now providing tent-based accommodation and office spaces in selected sites in the two provinces.
Since April 2023, the conflict in Sudan has displaced over 12 million people, with 1 million seeking refuge in Chad. UNHCR collaborates with CNARR to support the Government’s response and provide humanitarian assistance at the border.
– The support from MSB and the EU is essential for us to rapidly scale up our operational capacities in eastern Chad. It allows us to respond swiftly to the urgent needs of refugees crossing the border and ensure their protection, says Magatte Guisse, UNHCR Representative in Chad
The tents arrived N'Djamena via an air bridge from Europe last week and has as of yesterday reached the site in Tiné by road. An MSB-team, funded by the Swedish Development Cooperation Agency (Sida), has led the groundwork at the site and is currently offloading the goods.
Both the material and transport are funded by the EU.
