Medical equipment to Syria and Türkiye
More than 350 pallets of medical supplies are just now on their way from Sweden to Syria and Türkiye. The shipment will be divided equally between the two countries. The goods form a donation from a company called OneMed.
The request had been received via the EU civil protection mechanism and includes medical equipment, certain types of machines, personnel and other materiel to be used in the alleviation of the earthquake disaster.
MSB is the point of contact for the EU civil protection mechanism and thus receives requests for support and then cooperates with actors in Sweden who can contribute the support requested. In this case, collaboration has taken place between MSB and transport companies, the National Board of Health and Welfare and OneMed. MSB is responsible for the logistics around the shipment and transport of the donation as well as collaborating with other actors internationally.
Facts about the EU civil protection mechanism
MSB is the point of contact for the EU civil protection mechanism. This means that we both receive requests and offer help to countries, as well as, if necessary, mediating support from other countries to Sweden.
In Brussels there is a service, staffed 24/7, which coordinates the inputs of the member states. This is entitled the Emergency Response Coordination Centre, ERCC. ERCC has the task of analysing and evaluating information about events both inside and outside the EU. The ERCC also coordinates countries' requests for assistance and notifies the country concerned about the assistance available.
